Explanation of the zones : "Free access" means just about that - with the inevitable exceptions. "Controlled access" means limited access by vehicles, a certain amount of hiking/riding. "Restricted access" means (roughly) only local vehicles permitted, no tours without special permission, and hiking and riding ditto. These restrictions will have little effect on most tourists. The most popular areas are open.
Those who have studied the other maps of Wadi Rum on this website will notice that the Barrah Canyon is shown in the wrong place! Bad sign!
